Social
media has become ingrained into every facet of daily life. The research on the
topic has not been as extensive as some other areas because it is such a new
topic, but from what we have found, we have seen that social media has expanded
rapidly. We also found that many scholars have accepted social media addiction as
a significant problem. Our project hopes to give people the tools to think
critically about social media and not allow them to become completely absorbed
by it. The extensive research we have already completed has allowed us to become experts on the subject of social media addiction
and we plan to implement our knowledge into creating our project.
Through
our project, we aim to create awareness about the problem of social media addiction. We will
execute our goals of educating the public through sites such as Facebook,
Instagram, Twitter, and this blog. We have established a goal of
reaching 200 people through Facebook. We will do this by adding our friends and
groups that seem interested in social media addiction. On Twitter and Instagram we hope to gain
50 followers each. We will post the results from our survey, relevant information
from our research, and interesting social media addiction facts. Through
abstaining from social media for 5 days ourselves, we will get a better idea of
the role social media addiction plays in many people’s lives. We are filming
video blogs of ourselves each day we abstain on our Mac photo booth app in
which we will describe our experiences of going without social media. We will
also meet with Mr. TCU, Taylor Baker, to discuss his views on social media
addiction and get his endorsement for our cause. This interview will be
incorporated into our video. We will use the data we collect from this
experiment to gain knowledge in order to better cater to our audience and it
will be used as an inspirational tool as well.
We hope you enjoy learning more about social media addiction and find this blog both entertaining and educational!
